Purely Digital transitions in between the ground vibrational states of the bottom and fired up electronic states give rise to some spectral feature often known as the zero-phonon line (ZPL). Optical spectra of point defects in diamond in many cases are characterized by their ZPL wavelength, which is (typically) identical in absorption and emission.
